Hello,
I am wondering if anyone could explain to me the main difference between an ROI-ROI analysis vs ICA? And is there a time when one would be more appropriate than another?
After reviewing the recently released CONN Handbook (https://www.researchgate.net/publication/339460691_Handbook_of_functional_connectivity_Magnetic_Resonance_Imaging_methods_in_CONN), my confusion stems from the fact that both can be used to study entire networks of connections.
I believe the main difference is that ROI-ROI is based upon aprori regions, whereas ICA is a data driven approach and thus, will vary based upon the number of components defined. However, this may be incorrect / I may be missing other important differences.
Any insight is very much appreciated.
Cheers,
Nick
