RE: Global efficiency and path length calculations

could you please clarify whether average path length and global efficiency of an ROI are different, or are they the same (but just inverse)?

I have an ROI whose average path length and global efficiency are positively and negatively correlated with a clinical measure. 

Also, if I understand correctly, global efficiency is usually associated with long-range connectivity? Could you please clarify what long-range connectivity means?
